Andina & Rich in Performance Lane
FARM (Folk Alliance Region Midwest), Sheraton Westport Chalet, St. Louis, MO
Hey, western Midwest folkies--you say you can't travel north or east to the Chicago area? Tired of the Chicago-Lake Geneva-Battle Creek triangle? This year, FARM has decided to accommodate those in the western, southern and west-central states in our region from Oct. 11-14. We will be in St. Louis for the first time in our history, in a terrific hotel in the midst of a planned arts community, with myriad dining and shopping options for those times you're not making, listening to, or learning about all aspects of folk music (on the supply and demand sides). Performance Lane is the conference's official unplugged two-song-per-act mini-showcase, running on two simultaneous tracks in roomy and acoustically excellent breakout rooms--no sitting on floors or crowding onto beds necessary. We will be playing at 11:40 am. If you like what you hear and want to hear more, come to The Gordons' showcase room at 12:30 and hear us do a full half-hour set with refreshments. The Gordons have booked an amazing lineup for both nights! We may show up solo or ensemble in the open mic as well--and other private room showcases are in the works. And Local 1000 is once again planning to host a Showcase-Free Zone on the music floor of the hotel on Friday & Saturday nights. For you early arrivals, Thursday night includes a welcome reception, Best of the Midwest Folk DJ Invitational Showcase and the open mic. Formal showcases run Friday and Sat. nights with carefully selected amazing performers from across the US and Canada (not just the Midwest). And there will be informative and enjoyable panels and peer group discussions.....and jamming, jamming, and more jamming.
