The inimitable Julie Jurgens will be hosting another of her amazing bimonthly tribute showcases at Gallery Cabaret in Bucktown--and once again, I'm onboard. This time, the focus will be on the songs of Woody Guthrie (in honor of his centennial) and his legacy of generations of original protest songs from the 1950s-today. I'll be playing some of Woody's stuff on dulcimer & guitar--and of course, my own topical political humor songs (twist my arm, why dontcha? Why? Because We Can--hint, hint). Get there early because parking spots go quickly--and stay till the cows come home (or the management kicks us out, whichever comes first but usually till way past 1 am). The place will be rocking as long as it's still open. Great beers, wine, cocktails, sodas, a potato-chip menu the size of many wine lists, and maybe even fresh popcorn. You'll hear rockers (solo and in bands), folkies, pop-ternative, shoegazers, comedians of all genres, and an amazing array of instruments stringed and not.
