Second Friday With Andina & Rich
People's Church of Chicago, 941 W. Lawrence Ave., 3rd Fl., Chicago, IL
Andina & Rich, heeding the enthusiastic recommendations of other Chicago artist friends who play there, will play the Second Friday concert series at the (national landmark!) People's Church of Chicago building where Edgewater meets Uptown. (It's on the third floor, so it's not wheelchair-accessible, alas.....and we old fogeys--uh, folkies--will gladly accept all the instrument-schlepping assistance offered). Three blocks from the Lawrence Ave. Red Line CTA stop, and along the Lawrence Ave. CTA bus route! It's a wonderful place for many reasons: I had occasion to attend both a stirring primary-reelection campaign speech there (and meet) Mayor Harold Washington, and the memorial service for legendary neighborhood activist Ann O'Brien Stevens--with the eulogy delivered by then-sitting U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. And it is also the home not only of the UCC People's Church but also the newest home of the New Garden Unitarian Church (for whom I've helped present services with Susan Urban and Kate Early)--both ministered to by the inspiring and delightful Rev. Jean Siegfried Darling. And once the show is over (or if you're an early diner), there are really cool dining options within a couple of blocks: Silver Seafood, Pho Le Hua, Fat Cat, Tank Noodle, Tank Sushi, Ba Le; and late shows at the Aragon, Riviera and jazz at the legendary Green Mill!
